SENG’s First Patent

Body

On May 11, 1994, the School of Engineering (SENG) filed its first US patent application, for a dual-emitter lateral magnetometer. A research team led by Prof. Jack LAU, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the School’s first PhD graduate, developed a new magnetic sensor that could improve the performance and lower the cost of magnetic recording devices such as tape recorders and computer hard disks. The patent was granted in 1996.
