The School of Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof Siu Wing Cheng, Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), as Associate Dean of Engineering (Undergraduate Studies), with effect from 1 January 2016. Prof Cheng is succeeding Prof Hong K Lo upon his move to the role of Head with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Concurrently, Prof Cheng will also be in charge of the operations of the Center for Industry Engagement & Internship (IEI) and industrial training.

Prior to his service as the Associate Dean, Prof Cheng has been serving the CSE Department as the Acting Head from 2013 to 2014, and the Associate Head from 2007 to 2011. Besides his positions at HKUST, Prof Cheng is also the Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member of several international academic journals, including the Journal of Computational Geometry, Computational Geometry: Theory and Applications, and more. Prof Cheng was also the program co-chair of the Annual Symposium on Computation Geometry, 2014, the flagship conference in the field. His research interests include computational geometry, algorithms, and data structures. In recent years, he has been focusing on geometric optimization, mesh generation and manifold. During his service at HKUST, Prof Cheng has over 120 academic publications, including books, book chapters, conference papers and articles.

The School would also like to pay tribute and thank Prof Hong K Lo for his dedication and contributions to the School as Associate Dean over the past years. During his term of service he has pushed forward the development of the School, including the provisional accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) via outcome-based education approach, the advancement of first-year advising and mentoring for undergraduate students, the promotion of Engineering among high school students, and much more.
