Josie Gehan

I must confess that Data Science wasn’t exactly on my radar when I started engineering at HKUST. In fact, I started out aiming for the Risk Management and Business Intelligence major. However, after attending all the lectures offered by the academic orientation for engineering students (ENGG1010) in the first semester, my perspective of engineering has been widened dramatically. That series of lectures introduced me with various majors and professionals working in the industry.

Moreover, as I got to know more peers who have the same interests in data science, we learn and grow together as a group. I remember we were very excited when hearing that hackUST, the hackathon organized by HKUST welcome rookies like us to join. So I got a chance to handling data during the hackUST. It was like love at first sight. I discovered that Data Science could help us to make informed decisions, managing database etc… Soon, I evolved to learning languages and coding. Today, I’m fortunate to say that I have found my passion and am doing what I love!
