Hi! This is Natalie, majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
A successful person, typically speaking, can be defined as one who can earn a lot from their business or be the chairperson of a company. However, in my point of view, a successful person should not be defined barely by one’s wealth or status but instead, their thinking. I always strive to do my best to be a logical and creative person with high flexibility in adapting to different environments. Meanwhile, studying engineering can fulfil my goal of becoming a successful person.
To be frank, before I studied here, like some of the outsiders, I thought engineering was a dull subject designed only for males. After a year of fruitful and rewarding learning experiences, I truly appreciate and love the way engineering combines calculations and logical thinking together in order to find out the correct answer. This reverses my first impression towards engineering and I learned that females can play just as important a role in the engineering field. I became more passionate about studying this subject and I am more than ready to discover more.
Studying at HKUST has been one of the best decisions of my life. Enjoying the magnificent sea view right beneath our campus is always my favourite way to relieve stress. I am grateful to have met so many intelligent yet humble friends, who are willing to teach and share their own experiences with me. HKUST also provides a platform for me to step out of my own comfort zone and meet friends from all over the world. I am also thankful to have received the education here under the guidance of a remarkable teaching team. Each new academic year is filled with new possibilities!
