Iris Tsz Yan
Hi guys! I am Iris. Being influenced by my relatives who are engineers, I have always been curious how being an engineering would be like. I would imagine myself being just like them, pursuing my career with them in this field.
Since young, I had already been aware of the environmental issues that have been brought about globally, and the major that I am currently studying aims to alleviate the potential problems. During my secondary school years, I was like most of you, thinking that "Chemical" and "Engineering" are two different aspects. My perception changed when I went to Info Day. I was fascinated by one of the lab tours, where the student ambassadors demonstrated a strengthened polymer and compared it to another which had not been strengthened. Despite the fact that couple of years have passed, I could hardly forget the passionate faces on the student ambassadors, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of them when I got into HKUST School of Engineering.
The Engineering Student Ambassador program aims to promote engineering to prospective students. Without them, I would have never known more about the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, which would eventually become my home department.
I am more than happy to exchange our experiences in studying engineering. So, what’s your story?
