Engineering possesses a seemingly endless scope that has influenced almost all aspects of daily life. No matter how novel or singular your interests are, be it automobiles or aircrafts, computers or software, communication, electronics, chemicals, medicine, geology, environmental sciences or another one of the countless pursuits out there, you can find a field of engineering suited just for you. As a kid, I was convinced that I had found my niche in aviation and spaceflight. But then again, every kid dreams of flying and wonders of the world beyond the skies. As my family likes to put it, I never really grew out of it. One cannot blame me for doubting the practicality of my childhood aspiration. Despite the massive surge in air travel and international enthusiasm for space exploration, aerospace remains an unconventional field of engineering, and I rarely got to share such interests with my peers in high school. But to this day, I have never encountered a discipline that has captivated me like the science of flying.

One crucial feature of Aerospace Engineering that is quite often overlooked is its heavy dependence on multidisciplinary approach to solve problems. Most modern marvels of engineering are not the brainchild of a single engineer but the result of painstaking work done by numerous collaborating teams of engineers with diverse specializations. Through the immense diversity within its student community and broad range of major and minor programs, HKUST provides such a realistic setting for engineers of the future. Student societies such as the Robotics Team and Aeronautics Interest Group in HKUST have provided me with rewarding experiences in this innovative environment. Valuable opportunities for undergraduate research under world-class faculty, internships, and co-op programs also provide much-needed insight into the engineering sector. It is indeed an honour to represent the HKUST School of Engineering .
