The HKUST Development and Alumni Office, HKUST Alumni Association and HKUST Convocation jointly organized the opening ceremony of the HKUST Alumni Commons and a Poon Choi Party on January 17, 2026, attracting more than 300 alumni, friends and supporters of the University to a joyful celebration on campus.

Located at the northern end of the Entrance Piazza, adjacent to the Student Center, the Alumni Commons is a dynamic space designed to foster connections, collaboration, and community among the University’s alumni. The vibrant hub is the first space on campus dedicated to the ever-growing alumni community, providing a place to engage, share experiences, and build lasting relationships.

At the opening ceremony, distinguished officiating guests including President Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST Council Members, HKUST Foundation Board Members, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Charles NG, and other senior management, joined alumni and friends in sharing their best wishes for the University’s future.

Following a ribbon-cutting at the entrance of Alumni Commons, participants enjoyed a guided tour of the Alumni Commons and the Galleria of Alumni Legacy, where generous donors to the Alumni Endowment Fund are honored with their names on commemorative plaques.

The evening continued with a Poon Choi Party at the S. H. Ho Sports Hall, featuring captivating vocal performances by talented student and alumni.

Serving as a home to HKUST alumni, the Alumni Commons marks a milestone for the University’s alumni engagement and demonstrates the important role of alumni in their alma mater’s development. The new facility is set to become a lively center for connection, where alumni can reconnect, exchange ideas, and inspire future generations.
