Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards 2026
The Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards are a signature initiative of the HKUST School of Engineering launched in 2026. These awards honor alumni who exemplify excellence in engineering, leadership, and service, and who continue to make meaningful contributions to their professions, communities, and alma mater.

Eligibility of Nominees
To ensure fairness and alignment with the award’s purpose, nominees must meet specific eligibility requirements. These guidelines help maintain the integrity and prestige of the awards.

Nominees must be alumni of the School of Engineering (SENG), who have successfully completed a program/attained academic qualifications accredited by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

The award is not presented in posthumously. All award recipients would be honored at the Award Ceremony held in conjunction with the Engineering Alumni Homecoming which will take place on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Awards may be withdrawn by the selection committee for any cause which reflects poorly upon the University or SENG.
Nomination Procedure

Eligibility of Nominators: Nominations may only be submitted jointly by two members of the HKUST community, including staff, students, or alumni. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Nominators must obtain the nominee’s consent prior to submitting an official nomination.

Each nomination must consist of the designated nomination form and supporting documents, including:

nominee’s current curriculum vitae;

a two-page statement highlighting the nominee’s professional experience, development and achievements for the chosen category; and
-
two written reference letters, including contact details (one each from the first nominator and second nominator).

Please limit the supporting documents to no more than 10 A4 pages.

A nomination is considered valid only if all fields are completed, the form is duly signed by the nominee and the nominators, and all required supporting documents are included.

Nominations must be submitted by the deadline via email sengpr@ust.hk with email subject: Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards.

Incomplete or late nominations will not be accepted.
Selection Criteria
The selection panel evaluates each nominee based on a balanced set of criteria to ensure that awardees represent the highest standards of achievement and contribution.

The panel will evaluate nominees based on the following three criteria:

Professional Development and Achievements
The nominee’s career progression, professional accomplishments, and contributions to the engineering field. -
Impact, Leadership, and Service
Beyond job responsibilities, this assesses the nominee’s influence, leadership roles, and meaningful contributions to their profession, academia, and society. -
Ongoing Engagement with HKUST and the Broader Community
Evaluates the nominee’s sustained involvement with HKUST (including alumni/ School of Engineering/ Departmental activities), as well as participation in societal and professional initiatives.

Nominees are expected to demonstrate strong achievements across all three categories.

Multiple nominations for the same individual will be consolidated and reviewed as a single submission. While the number of nominations does not directly influence the scoring, the breadth and depth of support may be taken into consideration by the selection committee.

Awards will not be made in the event that no deserving candidates are identified.
Selection Panel
A dedicated panel of leaders from the academia and industry will review all nominations and make final decisions, ensuring a thoughtful and rigorous selection process.
Award Announcement and Presentation
Award recipients will be invited to attend an Award Ceremony held during the Engineering Alumni Homecoming on Saturday, January 10, 2026, where the achievements of the Awardees will be celebrated with the participants.
