Shiran

When I was in secondary school, I was fascinated by the beauty of science. However, I eventually chose to study engineering because I wanted to go beyond theories and discover how we could translate our knowledge into real-world applications, and how science could benefit all people through the creations of engineers.
After joining the School of Engineering, I found that it was more than just a world-renowned institution. By participating in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), I was able to put what I had learned into practice and had the opportunity to interact with top professors. On this diverse campus, I have made friends with brilliant minds from Asia and around the world, which has broadened my international perspective. The school also encourages us to study abroad. The four-week study abroad program in Prague, sponsored by HKUST, immersed me in European culture and introduced students from Europe and the US to Hong Kong and China.
After my first year, I decided to major in Computer Engineering (CPEG), which is an interdisciplinary field of computer science and electronic engineering. I have a great passion for electronic engineering because I love physics, especially circuits, and I also want to follow the trend of computer science in the 21st century. Our school is at the top of the world in both subjects, and I believe this major will allow me to excel in both software and hardware.
