Yuet Hey

Growing up, I probably had a bazillion dream occupations that I was drawn to pursue: a physiotherapist, an astronaut, a lawyer, a trilingual interpreter, and so many more wild thoughts. Dreaming big from a young age has made me aware of the importance of being an innovative and impactful person in our society. This is why I, who have always been interested in applied science, decided that engineering is the best way for me to turn fundamental knowledge into practical solutions that fulfill societal needs and make our world a better place to live.
Studying engineering at HKUST equips me not only with the necessary knowledge but also with connections to some of the brightest minds and experts in the industry, as well as opportunities to collaborate with students on hands-on projects. As a computer engineering student, what I find most thrilling about my major is its ability to merge both hardware and software development, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity. It is absolutely fascinating to learn how the smallest lines of code can be combined to power complex systems that transform the way we live and interact.
Outside the classroom and beyond lecture notes, HKUST has offered me countless opportunities to grow through on-campus internships, where I spent over half of my freshman year working in deep tech commercialization and startup development. I have had the privilege of working alongside passionate professors and staff members at HKUST who inspire me to commit to self-directed learning and continue to dream big.
Being part of the SENG community has not only fueled my enthusiasm for engineering but has also reinforced the importance of staying curious, persistent, and collaborative. I am truly excited to connect with you, and I look forward to sharing my passion for computer engineering. If you have any questions about this field or HKUST engineering, please feel free to ask!
