Engineering is magic, a power, a tool that makes imagination a reality. I desire to understand how things work and the theories behind them. I remember the first computer lesson I had in primary school. My wonder and interest have grown significantly since then, becoming more profound and passionate with every discovery I made.

As a senior entry student through a sub-degree, my life at HKUST may be different from that of others. I feel the pressure to meet program requirements and maintain a good GPA, the urgent need to find an internship, the desire to do something meaningful to enhance my CV, and the challenge of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, all while navigating a stressful atmosphere. A lot of things happen, and it becomes overwhelming when they overlap. However, I still managed to survive my first year here.

Yet, I continue to challenge myself. Why? Because at HKUST, you are not alone. There are peers who share the same struggles as you, faculty and staff who provide valuable guidance, and friends who will study with you late into the night at the library. We have a very supportive engineering community here. There are endless opportunities for exploration and creativity. Want to take a break? Let’s go to the seafront and enjoy the spectacular sea scenery, or hang out in the engineering common room and spend time together. I have met many interesting people here and built meaningful relationships. I am grateful not only for the education I have received but also for the support from others. I have learned how to deal with my problems effectively and efficiently. I tried, and that’s why I am writing here as an ESA.
