James Ho

As a current dual degree student majoring in Civil and Structural Engineering and General Business Management, my academic journey at HKUST has been a perfect blend of my interests in science and problem-solving. Being a person who has an avid interest in transportation systems and infrastructure, civil engineering has undoubtedly been my first choice in the major selection exercise.

One of the primary reasons I chose HKUST's School of Engineering (SENG) was its exceptional academic reputation. The School’s outstanding achievements, particularly in the engineering field, inspired me and fueled my desire to join this community of talented individuals. To gain more insights into the University, I attended HKUST's Information Day and was impressed by the warmth and friendliness of the people and students I met. They patiently introduced their programs, shared their experiences, and made me feel welcome. Through this interaction, I realized the importance of student perspectives in understanding a university's culture and values. This positive encounter solidified my decision to choose HKUST as my academic home.

From the very beginning, my journey in SENG has been filled with cherished memories. In my first year, the dedicated staff and various activities organized by SENG played a pivotal role in guiding me through the transition into the University environment. Their support and guidance eased any initial apprehensions I had, allowing me to adapt smoothly and make the most of my university experience.

Overall, my time at HKUST and in SENG has been incredibly rewarding. The dynamic and inclusive community, combined with the excellent academic resources, has provided me with a nurturing environment to grow both academically and personally. I am grateful for the opportunity to study at HKUST and excited to continue my journey, building on the strong foundation and memorable experiences I have gained so far.
