Shingo Cheuk Lok

I started my engineering journey when I joined the robotic team in secondary school. The sense of accomplishment was thrilling when making a robot for the first time. Then when I was in Form 5, I joined a STEM summer camp organized by HKUST. The camp allowed us to have various hands-on projects and chat with the professors. After the camp, I became more passionate about engineering and I wish to become an HKUST student in the future.

After joining HKUST, I found that studying here is a lot different than in secondary school. While secondary school curriculum prepared students for exams,  university curriculum focuses on understanding. I was unaccustomed in the beginning, but the department staff and professors were nice to answer my questions. So I adapted very fast.

During a few years of study, I have gained a lot of valuable experience and have felt closer to becoming an engineer. Although face-to-face teaching was suspended due to the pandemic, HKUST School of Engineering has made huge efforts to broaden students' horizons such as organizing online seminars and sharing. As an Engineering Student Ambassador, I am ready to contribute to the School of Engineering by serving all engineering students and assisting the school in organizing events
