When I was a kid, I was taught how to use the computer to connect with people and gain knowledge. For the first time I watched a video explaining how people solve real-world problems using an engineering mindset online, I was amazed by the intelligence of human-being. Since then, I have wished to be an engineer when I grow up. Not only because it sounded cool for a kid, but I also hope to bring convenience to the world by applying my knowledge in daily life. As a world-class university, there are many talents of different aspects at HKUST. When I chose this university, I truly believed the School of Engineering at HKUST is certainly the best place for me to pursue my dream and where I can learn from the talent.
After entering HKUST, I took two courses from the Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD) in my first year. Both courses impressed me a lot. The first course was about designing chocolate for a cabin. The objective of another course was to solve any problem around us, so our group chose to design a mask for better communication in daily life. I felt excited when working on both projects. It was because I applied my knowledge to solve real-world issues, which is my dream. Therefore, in my second year, I chose to join ISD. More opportunities are waiting for me to try in the next three years. The experiences and skillsets gained from ISD are valuable as future engineers should be equipped with cross-disciplinary skills. Therefore, I am ready to take up the challenges.
This year, I am grateful to be part of the Engineering Student Ambassador (ESA) family. I can broaden my connection with prospective engineers of different backgrounds. As an ESA, I am willing to share my story with others. I hope my story can motivate people around me, helping them to plan the future. No matter what they face, they can still motivate themselves to move forward. Always cherish the opportunities you have, and keep exploring the world!
