In joining university, I always knew that solely obtaining an engineering degree would not be sufficient to reach my aspirations. Following an interdisciplinary education by incorporating aviation, sustainability and entrepreneurship was my key objective and studying engineering at HKUST has not only enabled me to join a program that meets this criteria but it has opened up many more pathways than I ever thought possible. HKUST provides students with immense program flexibility from providing unique interdisciplinary programs to allowing us to combine our engineering major with additional majors and minors. Furthermore, every semester we get a multitude of opportunities to apply everything we have learned to solve the complex problems of the 21st century through the many entrepreneurship and engineering competitions taking place, which have enabled me to develop a global mindset to approach, ideate and aid in solving some of the major problems of the 21st century. While all those programs and competitions in themselves allow you to build a diverse network of colleagues.
What I truly love about HKUST, is how the development of our network is emphasised by permitting us to work directly with professors through its unique 'undergraduates research opportunities program'. While I knew what industry I wanted to join, I never could understand how to make that impact we all desire to make. However the experience I gained through these many programs and the invaluable conversations I have had with reputed professors in the process have allowed me to gain a critical understanding of what my goals are, the obstacles that lie in my way and how to effectively combat them.
