Rebecca Ka Shuen

Ever since I got my first taste of programming in high school, I’ve had a strong desire to delve into the magical commands. It is always exciting to see many complex problems being solved by the powerful languages. To fulfil my curiosity, I decided to study computer science at HKUST, a world top-ranking university, and embark on my programming journey. From acquiring fundamental knowledge to practically work on projects I am interested in, I am provided with lots of resources and opportunities here to gain experience and to better equip myself.

I got my first internship at HKUST as an IT student helper, realising that this is so different from studying. In these days of technological explosion, there are countless possibilities and solutions to explore and to discover. With the help of my supervisors and other student helpers, I learned not only to apply the knowledge, but also most importantly to search for alternative approach. I enjoyed working in teams and exchange ideas with students full of enthusiasm for software engineering. This confirmed again that it is indeed a right decision for me to study Computer Science here.

The diversity of HKUST allows me to start a voyage of self-discovery. Last summer, having rehearsals and being on stage with a group of talented music lovers, I joined the musical and gained valuable experience. I also got a chance to express myself and take another perspective while interacting with people there. Through stretching myself with something different and connecting with others, I pursue my dreams and go on my journey with peer support. Knowing that the Engineering Student Ambassador program offers vast number of opportunities, I am looking forward to challenging myself and meeting people from various background.
