My student struggles with her Jupas choice and asking for my advice which draws me back to my S6 reminiscence. I was once a perplexed student grappling with uni programs but sometimes when you lose your way in the fog, you end up in a beautiful place, or the solution pops up tactically once you almost cannot hold your last breath.

Stunned by the astonishing architecture in the Italian exchange, my interest in structure and building aesthetics were inspired. I started to collect information about the building industry and aspired to be one of the wheels that cast the spectacular architecture. My future perception contradicted with most of my schoolmates who have no interest in Mathematics-related subjects as well as Engineering. They cannot resonate or understand my enthusiasm for engineering which waver my perseverance when being uptight with future prospects. There is a quote from The Imitation Game by Alan Turing, “Sometimes it is the people who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.”  I was empowered to accept and please my unique thought that may build my forthcoming success by following my heart. It further breeds my passion for civil engineering and determination to be a Civil engineer.

In HKUST, I have met many like-minded people to strive for the goals with togetherness and laughter. The professors always provoke our minds with various arduous problems to nurture our bravery in accepting failures and boost our problem-solving skills.

“There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there’s life, there is hope.”
