Everyone was once as confused as you are. We are all aware of the importance of the decisions we are making at our age, which can hugely affect our lives. This taste of freedom could be daunting at the same time. So we need a strong, powerful and reliable support system throughout these university years.
When I was studying in secondary school, I applied to the HKUST Summer Institute for a summer course in robotics. It was a brand new experience for me, not only about robotics but also the way the professor taught us. He encouraged us to ask questions, but he never responded with the answer right away. He kept leading us to think and attempt to come to the solution on our own. In the end, I was able to find the answers to my questions, which brought me overwhelming satisfaction. This experience always reminds me that I have all the tools I need to seek knowledge. Can I break down my questions? Which part of a theory do I not understand? These practices become very useful in my university life.
Compared to learning in secondary school, the experience in university is entirely different. The difference lies in our learning attitude. In HKUST, I encountered numerous professors infusing experiential learning methodology into course, to encourage students to seek their own answers. Though sometimes confusing, we should recognize that all of us can create the outcome we want. The University offers many resources and diverse platforms to cater all our needs, from study help, job-hunting, to networking. The only thing left is the decision you make. I made my move a few years ago. Are you ready to make yours?
