Having resided in Hong Kong for the past 18 years, I would doubtless call Hong Kong my home. It has always been my dream to study in a top university in Hong Kong that provides the best education in STEM. Hence, HKUST was my first choice.
I see HKUST as a very competitive environment, which pushes me to work even harder. What I admire the most is that, despite the competitiveness, everyone is willing to help one another. I enjoy working with a diverse team on various projects to exchange knowledge and ideas with my groupmates. While working on projects or internships, it is normal to meet failure or adversity. In the past, I used to feel sad. But now, I take those failures as booster for me to work even harder, making me confident in the face of new challenges.
I see HKUST as an ocean filled with opportunities, with hundreds of student activities, internships, research opportunities, and so on. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to gain hands on experience in the engineering field. Back in high school, we often said, “I want to study engineering because I want to apply my science and math knowledge to solve real life problems.” Today when I actually get to experience it, it just feels wholesome. I would say, if you are in HKUST, never miss out on opportunities, there are just a lot of wonders to explore here!
