Hi, I'm Grace. I was born in Korea but I lived most of my life in Mongolia, Russia and the Philippines. I've always followed my parents around Asia but Hong Kong was the first place I chose with my own will. So many people ask me "why do you come to Hong Kong?" and "why do you choose HKUST?". After high school, I wanted to continue my studies in an international atmosphere and Hong Kong is surely a unique place where the East and the West meet to create the hub of international diversity. The low student-faculty ratio of HKUST provides an opportunity to have close interaction with world-class scholars, bringing out the best potential within it's students.

Usually, the next question they ask is not "why do you choose engineering?" but "what is engineering". Since I was young, I loved math and science and numbers were close to my heart. Yet, there was a dilemma; I wasn't interested in just learning the theory but wanted to use my knowledge for a practical purpose that could benefit and help other people. During my high school year, my substitute science teacher who was a former engineer gave me an answer. Engineering has the amazing ability to bridge and integrate science and real world issues to create better solutions. I hope more people who enjoy math and science and have the passion to use it for good will be informed about engineering and not pass it as a mystery.

If you have any questions about engineering or HKUST in general, I would love to listen and help. Please feel free to drop me an e-mail or ask me in person!
