HKUST is with a wide range of diversity – not only the diverse backgrounds of students, but also the diverse opportunities that enrich my university life. I’m studying Chemical Engineering and Business Management.
Apart from typical lectures giving me background knowledge, I have participated in some events and courses where I could apply the theory and skills I gained from HKUST. I went to Minneapolis for Chem-E-Car competition. In this competition, our team was required to build a car powered and stopped by chemical reactions. Unlike normal courses, there were no absolutely correct solutions, and all we could do was continuous trial and error using our knowledge. I enjoyed the process of the competition, where I met students from all around the globe and could exchange brilliant ideas with them. Additionally, I joined one corporate sponsored project course. We came up with a feasible business plan for an executive search firm to automate their recruitment process using artificial intelligence. In this course, I could feel my passion by talking to our clients and addressing their needs. Unlike problems in textbooks, we were solving a real problem. Also, since all team members were from different countries, it was fun to learn from each other’s thinking processes and working styles.
Here, in HKUST, what you can gain is not only academic-related. HKUST emphasizes more on training students to apply their knowledge and commit to the real world.
