Hazel Wing Laam
I’m interested in engineering because I have always been fascinated by complex structures, especially roller coasters and skyscrapers. Hence, I opted for Civil and Structural Engineering and I hope to get involved in the design and construction of them.
My first year in HKUST was fruitful as I was given many outreach opportunities to explore this broad field. I met a lot of great people, including faculty and scholars that inspired me by painting a whole new picture of engineering. This motivated me to promote this subject because my impression of engineering has changed radically after getting into SENG.
I am currently a Student Technical Advisor in the course ENGG1200, which allows me to share my passion and engineering experience in building airships. I also get to learn about other students’ future aspirations through interacting with them. Furthermore, being an intern in the Academy for Bright Future Young Engineers has given me chances to assist in competitions and workshops that unleash the engineering potential of secondary school students. Moreover, I believe that being an Engineering Student Ambassador also allows me to share my story and aspirations in this profession.
I look forward to seeing you all on campus!
