Back in secondary school I always possessed this deep-seated fear that prevented me from taking any computer course in my curriculum. I always thought that computer science was not for me and always preferred other subjects over it. In other words, I just kept running away from it, but the growing influence of technology and its rapid development in today’s world gave me a curiosity to learn more about this ‘mystery’. Thus, in high school, I took up computer science as a subject. In the initial stages it was challenging and at many points of time I felt that I took a wrong step but as time passed by and the concepts started to sink in, I soon started to develop a liking for it and realized that I would like to gain more knowledge in this field. But it was only after I came to HKUST that I developed concrete interest in computer science and a major part of the credit goes to the faculty and the activities at the School of Engineering.

I would never hesitate to say that studying engineering courses at HKUST has been a completely different experience overall. The concepts in the courses are explained with a commendable level of clarity and more focus is given to the areas of application and practicality. The information sessions have been resourceful in providing extra information on interesting topics related to engineering and have also helped clear a number of doubts.

Engineering is synonymous to problem solving for the betterment of people and my passion for computer science drives me to do the same. I have gained a lot from the School of Engineering in the past one year and I am looking forward to representing it and contributing to it as an Engineering Student Ambassador.
