Marcus Nathaniel Mendoza
Hi there! I’m Marcus, an aspiring Mechanical Engineering major. I’m a Filipino who was born and raised in Hong Kong.
Since secondary school, I was sure that I wanted to study at HKUST. Some of my friends discouraged me, reminding me that it isn’t known as the “University of Stress and Tension” for nothing. But having attended a physics Dual Program course here, I was confident I was making the right choice.
And I did. Sure, there are some stressful courses, such as a project-based course where a groupmate and I had to design and assemble a car using 3D CAD software from scratch. But there was nothing unmanageable. Plus, HKUST’s remote location provides a serene and calming atmosphere. If you find yourself under loads of pressure, just take a minute to look at that gorgeous view of the ocean and mountains. It’s more relaxing than you might think.
I am taking Mechanical Engineering because of my passion for the inner workings of machines. How each little wire, screw, gear, belt, you name it, combine to form one functioning unit fascinates me. I also love designing things such as houses and cars, and taking this major will give me the technical knowledge to bring my creations to life.
If you have any questions about engineering, HKUST, or if you just want to talk, feel free to hit me up on my email address!
