Coming from Taiwan, I have never regretted my choice to study abroad at HKUST.

Besides the fact that the curriculum differs by providing more freedom for personal development and hands-on experience instead of merely learning theories, HKUST has offered opportunities that would not have been possible if I had stayed in Taiwan. The most influential amongst them are the HKUST Robotics Team, the Undergraduate Opportunities Research Program (UROP), and the Capture the Flag (CTF) Hacakday team.

Students and teachers from HKUST are warm and enthusiastic. I can recall my feelings of overwhelming appreciation when a class instructor of mine spent extra hours voluntarily only in the hope of helping more students understand the materials.

Thanks to the fact that HKUST allows all engineering students to declare their majors after one full year of academic experience, I am glad I made the correct choice — Computer Science. Joining the Robotics Team in my first year helped me to figure out that my interests are in software development instead of hardware and mechanics.

Another reason that makes HKUST stand out is UROP. I was able to contribute to a research topic of my own choice — Blockchain Application. With the comprehensive guidance from my supervisor and his Ph.D., I am honored by the fact that my paper was accepted by the CryBlock Conference in Munich!

Finally, HKUST’s CTF team was one of the most fruitful learning experiences to me. I was lucky to have the guidance on how to prepare cybersecurity hacking games from our super-solid and passionate senior members!

To sum up, HKUST has tons of great opportunities waiting for you to discover and I am sure that it will never let you down!! :)
