Thinking back, my decision to choose Engineering was simple. I remember speaking to an engineer and as a high school student who spent most of her time after school fooling around in Disney, when he mentioned his experience of taking part in Disneyland Hong Kong, I had already been convinced this is the future I wanted to pursue if it meant opportunities like this.
My first year at HKUST flew by and I met a lot of students who were smart, talented, hardworking and more experienced – they had been coding or starting their mini projects since middle school. But my favorite thing about the students at HKUST is that if you are willing to ask anyone around you a question about your work, they would be more than happy to help you.
I spent most of my second semester working at Undergraduate Student-initiated Experiential Learning (USEL) lab as a lab assistant and I would recommend this to every engineering student. The warm atmosphere made it a perfect learning environment. At USEL lab, they encourage students to experiment and make their ideas real by using the resources the lab has to offer.
As my first year came to an end, I became grateful to be a part of HKUST. The endless support from the professors, staff, and fellow peers encouraged me to learn more and make the most of my time studying here.
