I was faced with the difficult choice to continue my studies in close proximity to my home country, Malaysia, or to embark on a new journey in HKUST. It was a decision I never regretted after 2 years in a place where the sun rises by the ocean, and where people converse in distinct accents, all while I rush my way through the crowd to my 9am class.

A beautiful place to study in and of itself, HKUST’s charm is its excessive acceptance of diversity and the come together of different minds. I love it when a business student talks to me about Python, and when an engineering friend of mine asks me about the recent business case. Our university is just a huge cradle of ideas, empowering every student in all four Schools with the diverse skillset and unwavering confidence to take on the fast-paced and ever-evolving world out there.

My life as an engineering student at HKUST is exactly like the first time I took an escalator in the Hong Kong airport. I was shocked by how fast the escalator was compared to Malaysia’s and how people were just racing each other up on my left. In HKUST School of Engineering, you will get an intellectual awakening every day, and the crazily bright people that surround you will inspire you to be humble and pick up their disciplined work ethic to keep up with them.

I am very blessed to receive a scholarship from HKUST, thus I took up the mantle as an Engineering Student Ambassador to return this favour to prospective students. With my humble experiences as a Computer Science student, I hope to help others select a suitable path in the School of Engineering, and hopefully, find interest in HKUST and our wonderful community.
