I completed high school in Singapore and among the various universities I chose HKUST to do my undergraduate studies. A lot of people ask me “Why HKUST and not NUS or NTU?” or “Why come to Hong Kong when you could stay in Singapore?” Every time I hear this question I smile and say I chose to go to HKUST because I wanted an education that would allow me to study a variety of subjects before committing to any one discipline. Also, with HKUST having internationally recognized programs, world-class facilities, top rankings in Asia, a vibrant international community – not to mention the amazing views especially the seaside – my decision was made. Other than this, the scholarship I got was a cherry on top, which I was offered entirely on the basis of my high school results.
I am glad to be studying here at HKUST because I can trial and test various courses, and one of the courses which was a great learning experience for me was ENGG1100, the first-year cornerstone project. Throughout this course, I could learn about the various specializations within engineering and their applications, and then apply that in the building of a ‘chem off-roader vehicle’.
