Biography
Ir Mak Ka Wai graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1982. He was the then Deputy Director with Drainage Services Department. Earlier, he was an assistant director with Highways Department and served in Transport Department during the 1980s. He participated in numerous large-scale projects, including bridges, roads, tunnels, rivers, drainage and sewage treatment plants. In the 1990s, he spent six years in the then Works Bureau dealing with regulatory, slope and water policies. During his earlier years with water engineering, he received postgraduate training in river engineering in the Netherlands. He also obtained a Master of Arts in dispute resolution and arbitration. On top of engineering engagements, he acquired legal qualification and is a Barrister-at-law of the High Court of the HKSAR.
Ir Mak retired from the Government in 2020. He then joined the Council of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers as an Elected Ordinary Member from 2020 to 2024. He was a member of the Master of Public Administration Programme Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Baptist University from 2020 to 2022.
In July 2021, he was also appointed one of the members of the Engineers Registration Board as well as the Planning Sub-committee of the Land and Development Advisory Committee for the session 2021/2023 and 2021/2024 respectively.
After retirement, Ir Mak is mainly engaged in legal work and is a practicing barrister in Hong Kong.
