Biography

Biography

Prof. Qiu received his PhD degree from Institute of Fluid Mechanics, LSTM, at the University of Erlangen, Germany. He has extensive experience in the research of experimental fluid dynamics, multiphase flows and heat transfer, optical diagnostics and nano- and microfluids. Prof. Qiu is Associate Director of the Building Energy Research Center (BERC) of the HKUST Nansha Fok Ying Tung Graduate School. He is Editor-in-Chief of Case Studies in Thermal Engineering (Elsevier), Editor of Acta Mechanica Sinica (Springer), Editor of Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group), associate editor of Aerospace Science and Technology (Elsevier), and has been a member of the editorial board for more than 10 international journals, such as the members of Editorial Advisory Board of Experiments in Fluids. He was the Guest Editors of the special issues of Applied Thermal Engineering (Elsevier) and Communication in Computational Physics (CiCP). Prof. Qiu is the General Chair of 10th International Symposium on Measurement Techniques for Multiphase Flow (2017), General Chair of Asian Symposium on Computational Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow (2013), Co-Chairman of 8th Asian Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference (2010), Vice Chairman of 9th Asian Symposium of Visualization (2007) and Advisory Board members of many international conferences. He has been invited to give 21 invited, plenary and keynote speeches in International Conferences. He is the recipient of the Best Paper Award of Institute of Physics (IOP) in 1994; the Highlight of the year from Measurement Science and Technology (IOP) in 2005, the Highlights of the year from Journal Micromechanics and Microengineering, Institute of Physics (2009 and 2011); Mosaic (2007) Measurement Science & Technology, Institute of Physics (IOP); ASME Best Poster Award, ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (2010); Philips Outstanding Paper Award in ICEPT-HDP2012; Best Paper Award in 2nd World Congress on Mechanical, Chemical, and Material Engineering (MCM'16); Best Paper Award, 4th International Conference on Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow (2017); Fellow of HKIE; and the Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award: The State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (SSTPA) (1989); and The Scientific and Technological Achievement Award from the State Education Commission (1988).
