Application Guidelines
Application Deadline: 30 March 2024 (GMT+8)
Applications should reach the Office of the Dean of Engineering (Research and Graduate Studies) (DENG RPG) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) through the Online Application System by 23:59 on 30 March 2024 (GMT+8).
Selection Criteria
DENG RPG and departments will consider the suitability of the applicant based on one or more of the following criteria:
- Academic excellence
- Research potential
- English proficiency
Priority will be given to students who are expected to graduate in 2024-25 and students from our partner institutions.
Selection Procedures
- DENG RPG and departments will evaluate the applications based on the information submitted by the applicants through the online application system.
- DENG RPG may contact the referees and verify the submitted information if necessary.
- Successful applicants / shortlisted participants will receive a letter of acceptance via email by 30 April 2024 (GMT+8). They will be invited to confirm attendance by returning a signed agreement, and submitting the required information or documents, via the online application system by the deadline stated in the letter.
Application Procedures
- Download the Sample of Online Application Form to preview the information and documents required for the application.
- To begin your application, create an account by providing your email address, family / last name, and given / first name. Next, enter the system-generated 6-digit code sent to your email for verification before proceeding to the online application form.
- At least one letter of recommendation from your home institution (on the institution's letterhead and signed by the referee) must be provided and sent by the referee(s) directly to sengpgevents@ust.hk by 12 April 2024 (GMT+8). Please obtain consent from the referee(s) before providing their information in the online application form.
- Complete the application by filling in the required information, uploading the required supporting documents through the online application system, and submitting the completed form by 23:59 on 30 March 2024 (GMT+8). No changes can be made after submission.
- Applicants can save the information and retrieve an incomplete application in the online application system before the application deadline.
Information for Shortlisted Participants
- Full attendance for all activities is required.
- Shortlisted participants are responsible for arranging and buying their own flight tickets and local transportation to and from the airport and HKUST.
- HKUST School of Engineering will sponsor a round-trip airfare between the shortlisted participants' home country / region and Hong Kong, up to a maximum of the following amount; or the actual price, whichever is lower.

Remark: DENG RPG reserves the right of final decision on the amount of sponsorship for each shortlisted participant.
