Becoming a good engineer doesn't mean being exceptional at applying mathematics and sciences to resolve world problems efficiently; it means understanding problems better, realizing what people want and working efficiently in interdisciplinary teams. As our society continues to evolve, we make great strides in innovation and world development, yet more issues arise as a consequence- something I've grasped recently is how engineering can be so much more with the integration of design. By incorporating engineering and design together, engineers can conjure solutions which are not only efficient, but have long lasting impact and effectiveness while being sustainable for our future.
Studying at HKUST has allowed me to pick up numerous essential skills that have made me become a better engineer. My eyes have been opened to limitless ways to manifest my ideas on both paper and computer, learning how to properly capture the attention of “users" and ultimately envisioning products that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. Just like how I was taught proper sketching techniques and methods to emphasize detail, this was all a slow, meaningful process that ignited a flame within me, a burning passion for design.
I am grateful that I've been given the opportunity to join the Engineering Student Ambassador(ESA) family. I want to become one who can lead with a voice that can spread ideas while inspiring others, and at the same time evolve into something greater.
