Like most students in the School of Engineering, and most of my friends, I did not even know what engineering was all about in the beginning of my journey. But right now, I am more than happy to be studying as an Aerospace Engineering student.
If you ask me what engineering is about now, I will tell you that it is about doing the right thing in the right way. But at the beginning, I thought studying engineering would be about math, formulas, lab reports, plenty of assignments and painful projects.
As someone once said, a good teacher demonstrates and a great teacher inspires. Many professors I have encountered in HKUST are extraordinarily passionate, and have inspired me a lot not only in academics, but also about future career, ethics, society, and sometimes about life.
There are plenty of interest groups in HKUST focusing on different fascinating areas, such as electric vehicles, robotics, and remote control aircrafts. I had luckily joined the RC plane club in year two, which is one of the coolest things I had done in HKUST. From learning about how to design and manufacture the RC model, to successfully building and flying a plane, the experience is just amazing!
The School also provides a range of exchange programs which are also a very good experience. Exchange might mean different things to different people, it could be fun and travelling, but could also be experiencing different cultures. To me, it was more about learning to be independent and having freedom. But I had also met some new friends, learnt some new cultures, and went on some eye-opening trips during exchange.
I think my time at HKUST, just like in other stages of life, is filled with a lot of joy but also plenty of pain, which associates with growth. I am very glad with what I have experienced within these years and I wish I can still recall these memories when I get old.
