I never considered becoming an engineer until I truly understood what engineering is. Engineering goes beyond just mathematics and science, defying the stereotypes that often reduce it to mere scientific principles. Instead, engineering is a discipline geared toward serving people through scientific applications.

With a firm foundation in science, engineers can apply scientific principles to design products that enhance people's lives and improve their quality of life. This is what I love about engineering. It not only unites my three distinctive passions—science, design, and community service—but is ultimately about learning and applying knowledge to make an impact on the community. I am particularly passionate about accessibility and bridging gaps between people through communication. With this passion, I was drawn to electronic engineering, a field that leads communication technologies in modern society.

My journey at HKUST has been very fruitful. Surrounded by talented and hardworking students and professors, I am continuously inspired to do my best. Whether through lectures, labs, or extracurriculars, I have learned to be more proactive in understanding and seeing everything as a lesson. It is not always easy to navigate through an academic year, but I am able to view even the challenges as opportunities for growth, and I am grateful for them. I am excited about all that I have yet to experience at UST, and especially as an ESA, I look forward to the opportunities to meet more people and become a better engineer.
