Michael Jonathan

As a child, I never imagined that I would one day study in Hong Kong, far from my roots and loved ones. Growing up, I had a wide range of interests—drawing, robotics, and language studies—but I never anticipated that computer science would be the field that truly resonated with me. The ability to solve real-world problems through coding and create innovative solutions ignited a passion I hadn't foreseen. When I discovered HKUST’s global reputation for excellence in computer science and engineering, I knew it was the ideal place to nurture this newfound passion.

After over two years at the university, I can confidently say that the experience has been both challenging and fulfilling. While the coursework can be demanding, the learning process has been incredibly rewarding, deepening my motivation to think critically and develop expertise. Balancing independence with academic rigor hasn’t always been easy, but HKUST provides a supportive environment with abundant resources for students willing to take the initiative. Success here certainly requires dedication and hard work, but those who strive will find the support they need.

Looking ahead, I hope to contribute to this vibrant community of bright minds that I have come to care for deeply. As I continue to grow and develop, I aim to help others in the HKUST family grow alongside me.
