Throughout my life, I have always been fascinated by how things work. Even as a young child, I recall looking at certain household appliances, or machines, and wondering how they were able to function. I would spend many evenings with my grandfather, taking apart broken appliances and such, trying to fix them, and this further fostered my interest in the topic, leading to where I am now, pursuing a mechanical engineering degree at HKUST. Studying at HKUST has given me the opportunity to find out more about my personal interests, and what drives me. When I joined the School of Engineering, I didn’t have much of an idea about what I wanted to major in, or what I wanted from my university experience, but the learning environment at HKUST, along with the many opportunities present, allowed me to learn more about what I wanted to do, while also making me appreciate the things around me more, through a better understanding of engineering. For me, engineering is more than just a career path. The way that engineering drives innovation in all fields, helps to solve problems, and continues to seek new knowledge, are all reasons that further drive me in my study of mechanical engineering.
