Engineering is deemed monotonous by many. For me, however, engineering and its study should be, or in fact is, multichromatic in HKUST.

Since young, I have had a strong enthusiasm for computer science. For me, computer science is, in some sense, an art form. With elements that seem to be black-and-white and logical: bits and bytes, if’s and for’s, we can create whatever we want, from the apps that you’re using daily to the system that launches rockets up to space - the possibilities are endless. Where it’s different from art is that it can drive direct impact to all fields of the world right from your fingertips. As a curious and creative person, this is what attracts me to pursue my studies in computer science, and HKUST is undoubtedly the perfect place for that.

Ranked as the 1st in Hong Kong for 12 consecutive years, HKUST has remarkable academic excellence in engineering. Not only can I try out courses from different engineering fields in my first year to facilitate my major selection and fulfil my curiosity, but I can also join different competitions hosted by HKUST such as hackUST and HKUST-Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition to apply my skillset into real life problems and business cases.

Apart from academic studies, HKUST has also fostered a diverse university experience environment. I joined the Chinese Orchestra and Drama Society in year one. With support from HKUST, I can my artistic skills in organizing performances and concerts. It is a breath of fresh air from my academics, and what’s more, the soft skills learnt can be transferred to my future career. These precious memories with new friends in student societies are moments that I can never forget in my life.
