Engineering, a sophisticated aspect of the scientific world that had majorly revolutionized the way mankind live their lives. When I first heard about it back in primary school, it definitely was far from love at first sight. But everything took a turn when I first saw the movie “Iron Man”. Tony Stark, an engineer and the hero of the movie, designed an iron-based mechanical battle suit that he used to defeat the villains. Since that moment, I obtained a different perspective of machines and technologies. I started looking at devices not as phones or laptops, but instead as a mechanical masterpiece. The thought of how a simple creation can ease and heavily alter the way society operates, sparked my passion of exploring the world of engineering to an unparalleled level. This led to me joining HKUST in the Fall of 2019. Coming from an Advanced Level (A-Level) background, material wise, the engineering introductory courses didn’t really give me a difficult time. Instead, it was the intense competition that peers at HKUST laid on my shoulders that solidifies the struggles I faced in my early semesters. However, instead of letting the pressure bring me down, I took it as a motivation and leveraged my work ethic and time management, surpassing the limits I never thought I would. The most fascinating aspect of studying in HKUST is the availability of extremely diverse types of engineering, spanning from hardcore Aerospace and Electrical engineering to Financial Technology (FinTech) and Integrated System and Design (ISDN).

In HKUST, you will also meet amazing and sharp-witted individuals from different backgrounds, which is truly an important experience that will help when encountering future challenges. Despite the extreme hardships you will face in HKUST, in my opinion, it will without a doubt, shape you into a better individual and be successful.
