"Every experience teaches you something worthy." That has long been what I believe in.
Being enthusiastic about learning new knowledge, I actively participate in competitions and activities. From these experiences of both success and failure, I can find my interest, strength, and weakness. When I was in Secondary 4, I participated in my first STEM-related competition, Odyssey of the Mind World Finals 2017 - Hong Kong Regional Tournament. I discovered my interest in technology and engineering during that competition and decided to continue my study in engineering. Later in Secondary 5, I participated in another engineering competition, Energy Innovation for Smart City Competition 2017 – 2018. This time, we only got merit. The judges commented on our new design of air-conditioners as an energy-efficient but costly project. I realized the importance of business knowledge in designing and making a product that is attractive, but not only functional. Only then, it can serve as it was designed to. So, I decided to study in the Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management, to learn both engineering and business skills, utilize them to solve problems, and make the world a better place.
HKUST has a strong learning atmosphere and I think it suits me well. So, I chose to study at HKUST, which offers me the best. In HKUST School of Engineering, we are offered introductory courses to all engineering majors in Year 1. This allowed me to try on different majors and I discovered my interest in programming in one of the programming introductory courses and finally chose Computer Science as my major.
