When I first studied engineering, I did not find it so enjoyable because with all the assignments and exams, studying engineering looks monotonous to me. I thought that having a fruitful life in uni was just an illusion to me. However, engineering started to become interesting when I saw how it could apply to real life. I understood more on why things are in that way, such as giant structures and water pipes etc. We have great workloads because we need the skills and knowledge to fulfil the huge responsibilities of an engineer. A simple mistake could cost a building to collapse which is concerned with hundreds of lives. The society have expectations on us and it is up to us to deliver a safe and sound solution to them. I sometimes think we are creators that use science as our base. Engineering is meant to be tough. I still remember one of my professors telling us studying engineering is a mental challenge that we all should conquer. We are all meant to make the world a better place. Indeed, studying in HKUST is not just about stress and tension. I have joined the rowing team for 4 years and consistently have training for over 12 hours per week. Despite the time management skills I learned and the fitness I gained, I have made lifelong friends and a bunch of once-in-a-lifetime memories. I still remember the time I competed in the inter-university championship. A lot of things are achievable in uni, no one said it will merely be studying. There is no trick but to devote your time to the right thing. Everyone could live their life bright and colourful. It is up to ourselves to make our choice.
