I am always fascinated by aerospace engineering. Broadly speaking, I admire engineers’ capability to turn scientific theories into technological applications.
Many people didn’t understand why I chose Engineering, when my academic performance allowed me to enroll in a “more prestigious program.” A teacher even exclaimed “What a waste!” as he thought my English was very good.
In HKUST, students are expected “to be the first, to be the best, to go where no one has gone before.” I can do what I love and equip myself to realize my dreams.
I thought everything would go according to plan – joining the Robotics Team and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program in the first year. However, the doors were closed. Fortunately, many more doors opened.
My academic advisor changed my attitude toward university education. It is more than acquiring knowledge. Therefore, I took part in a lot of activities and events. The more unique ones included being an MC in several school functions, writing interview stories for the School’s newsletter, and sharing my experiences with secondary school students. Through all these, I’ve discovered my passion for writing and my interest in public speaking.
“It’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”
Seeing how colorful my university life was and how I have matured, the same teacher now confesses “I was wrong. You’ve made the right choice.” As you can see, one is responsible for one’s choice. No one can understand you more than you yourself do.
