Before university, my life had always been pretty stable. I got pretty good academic results, was admitted to the university and program I aimed for, and was just an introverted ‘nerd’ who focused a lot on studying and gaming. However, I have chosen to live differently here in HKUST. Apart from pursuing an extra BBA degree, I have been an executive committee member of 2 student societies, and am involved in different voluntary activities. I have also interned in social enterprises, and took a gap year for a placement in a local tech company. Furthermore, I am also actively helping the USThing team now.
Currently working on a start-up, I have found engineering to be extremely useful as an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship, from another perspective, is one of the ways to eliminate the differences between our ideal world and the current reality. Engineering plays an essential role here to build the paths step by step to attain this vision. Bearing the engineering mindset and having accepted few years of engineering trainings, I have the ability to learn fast and pivot until I can find a suitable solution for the problems that keep popping up during the start-up journey.
Out of my expected 6 years of university life, I believe ESA will be a great part of my final year at HKUST and I hope to experience more while working with new people here.
