Isaiah Thomas
The main reason why I decided to become an engineer was because I view it as one of the most dignified and virtuous skills an individual can pursue. Engineering has transformed the world into a place where human beings can no longer just survive but also thrive. We have created environments suited to our existence, built machines that convenience our lives and enhance our industrious and creative nature. But engineers have also build things not just for survival or improving quality of life, but also for their pursuit of knowledge, faith or glory. No other animal does this, it is uniquely human to build something solely for the purpose of achieving a goal higher than our basic needs and comfort. This is the proud and cherished legacy of engineering that I wish to be apart of, and I believe joining the HKUST School of Engineering was precisely the right choice in helping me to achieve that goal.
As an Engineering Student Ambassador, I would like to communicate this passion going forward to students, faculty and visitors of HKUST going forward. My experience studying at HKUST so far has introduced me to new ideas and fields of knowledge that I would otherwise would have known little to nothing about. I am very excited about my future at HKUST and the future of engineering and I believe being an ESA would allow me to broaden my scope of experience with the field of engineering as a whole.
