Parna
Hi everybody! My name is Parna Sur, and I’m a second-year student at HKUST pursuing mechanical engineering. Originally from Mumbai in India, I have been living in Dubai for the past six years. Starting university in a new country is always a big step, and moving to Hong Kong was both exciting and overwhelming at first. Coming from a different cultural background, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but HKUST quickly felt like home.
The first few weeks were a whirlwind – getting to know new people, adjusting to different teaching methods, and balancing the demands of a challenging course load. Engineering is a field that requires creativity and problem-solving, and I’ve enjoyed the hands-on experience at HKUST. Whether it’s working on group projects, solving different problems, or experimenting in labs, I’m constantly learning how theory and practice come together.
One of the things I appreciate about HKUST is its diverse student body. Students here come from all over the world, and the chance to interact with people from different cultures has been a good exposure. I’ve also joined a few clubs and societies that have helped me connect with like-minded people. These opportunities are helping me grow as a person.
Of course, there have been challenges. Balancing academic pressure, personal time, and adjusting to a new culture hasn’t always been easy. But every step of the way, the faculty and staff at HKUST have been supportive, and my peers have been a great source of encouragement. It’s reassuring to know that I’m surrounded by people who are always willing to lend a hand. In addition, the stunning campus makes you want to stay here forever.
In conclusion, my journey at HKUST has been one of growth, discovery, and multiple challenges. But it’s been a journey that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
