Growing up, I watched my dad teach physics with such passion that I found myself liking the subject alongside him, developing an early interest in engineering. His love for learning and problem-solving shaped my curiosity to explore the world of engineering, where the applications of these skills are highly visible. HKUST pushes students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom, making it the perfect fit for my aspirations.
When I joined SENG as an undeclared engineering major, I was uncertain about the path I wanted to take. However, exploring multiple introductory engineering courses helped me narrow my interests toward tech-related fields. My first year at university opened the door to valuable opportunities, two internships at startups based in AI as an AI Intern. During this experience, I applied my engineering knowledge to real-world business applications, working on predictive AI models in Python to perform data analysis and also worked with vision models. This hands-on exposure helped me see the practical impact of engineering and programming, reinforcing my passion for the intersection of technology and decision analytics, leading me to choose my major in Decision Analytics eventually!
