Cheong Ying Chan Professor of Engineering and Environment and Chair Professor Prof. ZHAO Tianshou, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering was awarded the Scienti c and Technological Progress Prize from the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation. The award recognizes his achievements in energy-e cient technologies and clean renewable energy storage devices and systems. Three School of Engineering professors have been elected fellows of prominent international societies in their respective elds. Prof. FAN Zhiyong, Electronic and Computer Engineering, has become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry for his major contributions to the eld. Prof. Ravindra GOONETILLEKE (pictured, top le ), Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics, has been made a Fellow of the International Ergonomics Association, a distinction that recognizes extraordinary or sustained superior accomplishments by an individual in the eld. Fang Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor Prof. LAU Kei-May (pictured le ), Electronic and Computer Engineering, was named an Optical Society of America Fellow for her outstanding contributions to photonic devices. 34 IN FOCUS Honors & Appointments Faculty awards & achievements Professor Emeritus Prof. Vladimir CHIGRINOV, Electronic and Computer Engineering, received the Slottow-Owaki Prize from the Society for Information Display. Prof. Chigrinov was cited for his educational achievements in liquid-crystal devices. The prize is awarded for outstanding contributions in the education and training of students and professionals in the eld of information display. Prof. Anthony LEUNG, Civil and Environmental Engineering, was recognized with the International Award for Innovation in Unsaturated Soil Mechanics from the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He received the award for his innovation and scholarship in the novel development of thermo-active pile rows for enhancing winter resilience of infrastructure embankments. Prof. LIU Ming, Electronic and Computer Engineering, received the IROS Toshio Fukuda Young Professional Award at the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS ). The honor recognizes individuals who have made signi cant early career contributions with major impact on the eld. IAS Bank of East Asia Professor and Chair Professor Prof. TANG Ching-Wan, Electronic and Computer Engineering, was a recipient of the C&C Prize from the NEC C&C Foundation in recognition of his discovery and pioneering development of thin- lm organic light-emitting devices and advancement of the organic electronics industry.
