The new platform, COVIDep, periodically pools SARS-CoV-2 sequence data and compares with experimentally-determined epitopes of SARS-CoV, to provide scientists around the world an up-to-date set of vaccine target recommendations for COVID-19.

(From right) HKUST alumni Donald Lai and Winsor Lee, who earned Bachelor’s degrees from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and worked on research projects at the University, joined the same company after graduation where they continue to further their research and apply their engineering knowledge, which in turn has contributed to society during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team has successfully made the prototype of the “super human eye” – an artificial visual system that uses a spherical biomimetic electrochemical eye with hemispherical retina made of a high-density perovskite nanowire array.
